Original artworks by two regional artists are now on display in Koroit and Mortlake as part of Creative Moyne's new BIG ART. SMALL TOWNS. public art program.
The inaugural exhibition features three large-scale works by Warrnambool artist Matthew Clarke at the Koroit Theatre and a new artwork by Mortlake-based Wiradjuri artist Chrystel Galea at the Mortlake Community Hub.
Moyne Shire Mayor Cr Jordan Lockett said the program was designed to make art more visible and accessible while supporting regional artists.
"Public art brings creativity into the places where we live, work and visit," Cr Lockett said.
"This program creates opportunities for artists to showcase their work while giving residents and visitors something new to discover in our towns."
“In the age of AI-generated rubbish art there’s never been a more important time to celebrate the artistic wonder humans create.”
Matthew Clarke's exhibition includes works inspired by personal experiences and people who have shaped his life. Chrystel Galea's artwork was inspired by Tea Tree Lake and encourages people to connect with the natural landscapes around them.
The current artworks on free exhibition will remain on display until 31 October 2026.
The public art program will present four exhibitions each year at both locations, rotating every 3 months, creating an ongoing showcase of regional creativity across Moyne.
