Top 10 ways to reduce energy consumption and costs
Top 10 ways to reduce energy consumption and costs
For electricity and gas, make sure you are getting the
best deal
In winter keep heaters to 18-20 degrees.
In summer, cool your home to 25-27 degrees.
Each degree adds around 10% to the amount of electricity used
Switch to more energy efficient heating. Switching from an electric fan heater to a split system can save the average home nearly $700 a year on bills. There are rebates to install more efficient heating in your
home
Shut doors to areas you're not using, and only heat the rooms where you spend the most time
Use window coverings (with pelmet) to keep warmth in during winter, and keep heat out in summer
Seal up draughts in your
house
Insulate where
possible
Switch to
energy-efficient lightbulbs
(LEDs)
When you buy an appliance, choose one with
high energy
and
water ratings
Keep your showers to minutes and install a
water saving shower head
.
