New plantings along Mill Street, Mortlake

Works update

Construction

  • Six graders currently out on maintenance rounds with two additional grader teams handling service requests
  • Graded roads damaged due to recent rain will be redone in the coming weeks

Open space

  • Tree plantings in Mill Street, Mortlake complete
  • Koroit tree replacement planting in new estate started
  • Top dressing on sunken areas in Railway Place, Port Fairy
  • Native vegetation signs installed along identified roadsides in the Shire’s north east.
  • Wet weather continues to restrict mowing in some areas but where possible it’s still being done

Maintenance

  • Damaged or missing bridge guardrail posts set for replacement next week
  • Patching crew have been busy carrying out pothole repairs and replacing missing or damaged reflector posts
  • Public facility cleaners continue to work through their programmed cleaning rounds
  • Street sweeper continuing with programmed rounds and clearing blocked stormwater pits
  • Bridge crew working through routine maintenance duties

Emergency

  • CFA have advised of an increased risk of fire across the far south-west of Victoria. Significant grass growth followed by potential drying out during spring is likely to increase fire risk later in the season
  • Predicted exceptionally warm and dry spring is likely to result in an earlier start to the fire season so Council along with the CFA is preparing firebreaks to reduce potential fuel loads
  • It’s a timely reminder to start your bushfire season preparations such as updating your fire plan, keep long grass mowed and clear out gutters
