Port Fairy Coastal Group

The Port Fairy Coastal Group was founded to facilitate community participation in coastal management decisions. We hope that residents and visitors will benefit from opportunities to help shape Port Fairy’s future coast.

The group was founded in 2011 by community members concerned about erosion of the beaches and dunes around Port Fairy who wanted to be part of the solution.

Our ongoing projects include:

  • Beach Monitoring Program - every six weeks we use a drone (or traditional surveying equipment) to accurately measure beach profiles along about 4km of  East Beach.
  • Year 6 School Science Project involves students from St Patrick's Catholic School and Port Fairy Consolidated School using a laser to monitor beach profiles at Pea Soup, South Beach
