Statement from the Mayor of Moyne Shire Council
Published on 11 September 2025
As Mayor, together with my fellow Councillors, I wish to make it clear Moyne Shire Council has zero tolerance for aggression, abuse, or threatening behaviour toward our staff.
Moyne Shire is a such a wonderful place to live and work and we are proud of our strong communities.
Our Council staff work hard every day to deliver services and support to our community. They deserve to do so in a safe environment - whether that is at the customer service counter, on a worksite, over the phone or online.
We understand that at times community members may feel frustrated or disappointed. Council welcomes feedback and constructive dialogue, but abuse, intimidation and aggression have no place in those conversations. There are clear and accessible ways to raise concerns or complaints respectfully and we encourage all residents to use those channels.
It’s important to remember that Council staff are also members of this community - they are your neighbours, volunteers and local parents. They are entitled to be treated with courtesy and respect always.
We will act decisively to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees. Any behaviour that is aggressive, abusive or threatening will not be tolerated.
I call on our community to uphold the values of respect, care and civility that make Moyne Shire such a fantastic and connected place to live.
Cr Karen Foster
Mayor, Moyne Shire Council
