Moyne Shire Council supports Belfast Aquatic’s decision to voluntarily close the Port Fairy pool and fitness centre. Council has recently commissioned a number of expert reports regarding the facility.

These reports have identified the presence of mould throughout the facility and algae in some parts.  As a result of this discovery, following a period of investigation and consultation, Belfast Aquatics has agreed to close the facility whilst further testing and remediation works are undertaken.

This decision has been taken following discussions with the Barwon South West Public Health Unit, Council’s Environmental Health Officers, various external expert opinion and Belfast Aquatics.

All parties have had to closely balance the benefit of the facility to the community against the priority of ensuring the health and wellbeing of the community is protected, and ultimately it was determined that closure is required.

Any concerned community members should refer to the Better Health Channel Resources provided by the Department of Health and attend their GP with any specific health concerns.  Community members are also welcomed to address any further concerns directly to Council by email to moyne@moyne.vic.org.au
