A technical report on the condition of the Port Fairy Pool facility has been released and will be presented to Moyne Shire Council’s Ordinary Council Meeting on 26 May 2026.

The report outlines the findings of a detailed technical investigation into the facility and identifies significant deterioration, with a substantial proportion of key building and structural elements requiring replacement or major rectification.

The report concludes that a repair-based solution is not appropriate, noting that such an approach would involve considerable cost, risk and uncertainty and may not deliver a long-term compliant or fit-for-purpose facility.

While Council acknowledges this will be difficult for our community to receive, the technical reports have provided Councillors and the community with a clear understanding of the current condition of the site and the challenges involved.

Councillors will consider the findings of the report and officer recommendations at Tuesday’s meeting. No decision has been made at this stage.

Future provision of aquatic facilities for Port Fairy and across Moyne Shire will be considered through Council’s Aquatic Facilities Strategy. Consultation on the draft Strategy closes today, Friday 22 May 2026, with the final draft to be considered by Councillors at the 30 June 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting.

The Port Fairy Pool asset audit report is a detailed technical document. Council encourages the community to read the report preface for a summary of the findings, or visit the updated FAQ page: www.moyne.vic.gov.au/Port-Fairy-pool-FAQ

The report can be found in the agenda for the May 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting.
