Councillor Jordan Lockett has been elected Mayor of Moyne Shire Council following a vote at Tuesday’s Council Meeting, marking his first term in the role.

Cr Lockett will be joined by Deputy Mayor Myra Murrihy, who will help lead Council over the next 12 months.

Cr Lockett thanked outgoing Mayor Cr Karen Foster for leading with compassion and kindness, and setting a great example for women in leadership.

The Mayor also thanked his fellow Councillors for their trust and support, noting this was a massive privilege and responsibility.

“I and this Council group will work well as a team,” Cr Lockett said.

“We will continue to build on the strong foundations already in place and work together to make sure Moyne’s voice is heard loud and clear,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to working with Cr Murrihy’s energy and creativity in her role as Deputy Mayor.”

The Deputy Mayor said she was looking forward to working with the Mayor and Council, and engaging closely with the community.

“I’m ready to work hard and excited to continue serving the people of Moyne,” said Cr Murrihy.

The Mayor reaffirmed Council’s commitment to advocacy at both state and federal levels.

“With a state election year ahead, our advocacy has never mattered more. We will focus on the big issues ahead including roads, drought recovery, fair wind farm outcomes, First Nations engagement and delivering our Council Plan,” said Cr Lockett.
