Two years after the community provided feedback on its preferred site location, the Skate and Play precinct at Russell Clark Reserve in Port Fairy will be officially opened from 3:30pm to 5:00pm on Friday 8 August 2025.
Senator Raph Ciccone and Jacinta Ermacora MP will be on hand to open the new district-level skatepark and play space at a ceremony hosted by Deputy Mayor, Cr Jordan Lockett.
Mayor, Cr Karen Foster said there has been an incredible sense of anticipation in the community for the new facility, with constant calls from parents and children eager to know when the play space will open.
“It will be very exciting to finally let everyone enjoy their new community gathering and recreation space,” said Cr Foster.
“It’s been a big undertaking to complete this project, with a complex site and a lot of associated works right along Campbell Street,” she said.
“Council’s Project Management Office (PMO) have done a great job, overseeing and collaborating with construction partner Convic, local trades and suppliers, Council work crews, local residents, community groups, utilities and more.”
“The PMO worked with the organisers of the popular Port Fairy Parkrun to ensure their altered course through the reserve would continue to meet global Parkrun requirements,” she said.
Key features of Skate and Play include:
- Fenced playground with 3-tier slide tower, in-ground trampolines, climbing frames and more
- Skatepark with a mix of street features and a beginner-to-intermediate bowl.
