Council services affected by Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating

The Catastrophic Fire Danger declaration for Friday 9 January 2026 will mean changes to Moyne Shire Council services.

Chief Executive Officer Mark Eversteyn said in effort to reduce fire risk, Council’s services and operations will be significantly altered.

This includes all Council works and operations like road construction, non-essential maintenance and township mowing and slashing will be postponed.

A number of other services will also be closed or operate at a reduced level.

Waste Facilities:
All waste facilities will be closed.

Amenities cleaning:
Essential emergency cleaning only in bushfire prone areas.

Local laws call outs:
Only approved essential calls out will be conducted.

Community Care:
All non-essential services will be rescheduled. Clients will be contacted directly.

Maternal and Child Health Centres:
All Maternal Child and Health Services will be rescheduled and centres closed, those with appointments will be contacted directly.

Early Years Services:
All Early Years Services will be closed.

Mount Shadwell Quarry:
The quarry will be closed.

Site inspections / Meetings:
All site inspections and non-essential travel will be postponed.

Swimming Pools:
Mortlake, Macarthur and Hawkesdale swimming pools will be closed.

Mr Eversteyn encouraged all Moyne residents to activate their fire plans now and to regularly monitor the VicEmergency App or website, or tune to ABC Radio.

“This is the first Catastrophic Fire Danger declaration in Moyne Shire and we are taking every precaution to reduce fire risk,” he said.

“Our Emergency Management team has been activated and is ready to assist agencies as required.”
