Community-informed strategy for Moyne’s environment
Published on 01 July 2026
Moyne Shire Council has endorsed its 10-year Environment and Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan, which has been developed through extensive community consultation.
Deputy Mayor Cr Myra Murrihy said the strategy and action plan also includes a community feedback report containing all 248 submissions received during consultation process.
“We asked the community for their views and they responded with a significant number of contributions that we were grateful to receive. Publishing the feedback shows we have listened and are committed to being open about the process,” Cr Murrihy said.
“Protecting our natural environment is central to Moyne’s future, our landscapes, waterways and biodiversity shape our identity, support agriculture and underpin community wellbeing.
“The strategy is stronger because of our community’s contribution, and I thank everyone who took the time to provide their feedback. It has resulted in a clear set of priorities and actions for us to work towards, over the next decade.”
The strategy focuses on biodiversity, waste and circular economy, climate resilience, sustainable land use, water security and reducing council’s operational emissions.
An advisory committee of community members and councillors guided its development along with engagement during the 2025–2029 Council Plan process and a six-week public consultation period.
“This is not a document that will sit on a shelf - the action plan provides clear direction, with annual reporting to track progress,” Cr Murrihy said.
