Moyne Business Facade Improvement Program

The Moyne Business Façade Improvement Program is part of Council's Small Business Incentives Scheme in line with its Economic Development Strategy Action Plan to create appealing streetscapes and encourage capital investment in our town centres.

The program provides a grant from Council on a $1:1 basis up to $5,000 for businesses to do work on shop fronts or to their business premises. Budget for the this Incentive is $50,000 and this will be allocated on a case-by-case basis subject to Council approval until the allocated budget has been spent or the scheme year has ended.

Eligible Works

The work must improve the building and street face by doing more than maintenance. Facade storefront restoration works eligible for consideration include the following:

  • Installation of new business signage

  • Facade painting

  • New, repairs and replacements of verandahs

  • Cleaning the existing facade and removal of cladding from presently concealed historic character features

  • Removal of redundant signage, air conditioning units and hoardings

  • Reinstatement of lost elements, or fabric to the façade of the building

  • Minor repairs to structural facade elements and awnings

  • Installation of interior store lighting visible from the street

  • Limited permanent interior improvements (the reconfiguration of the interior walls, display spaces and interior window finishes to enhance the function and displays of the storefront

 Eligibility Criteria

  • The program is open to any business located in the commercial area of a town that has street frontage. Home based or businesses with no street frontage are not eligible.
  • Application must be for eligible facade improvement works to a building in the eligible area.
  • The applicant must be a small business operator or property owner that leases to a small business. If the applicant is a small business operator the building owner’s consent must also be obtained. A small business is defined as a business employing less than 20 people (*Government Definition)
  • The proposed works are consistent with the design guidelines and heritage streetscape of the town centre
  • Facade improvement works are undertaken by a local business / local tradesperson where practicable.
