Moyne continues advocacy push ahead of state election

Moyne Shire Council is continuing its advocacy campaign in the lead up to November's State Election.

Mayor Cr Jordan Lockett said invitations had been sent to all incumbent MPs and declared lower house candidates, inviting them to meet with Council to discuss local and regional priorities.

"Invitations have been extended to all candidates contesting seats that include parts of Moyne Shire, with several meetings already confirmed and discussions continuing to be arranged throughout the campaign,’ Cr Lockett said.

He said Council was taking a practical and focused approach to its advocacy, concentrating on shovel ready projects ready for government consideration.

"Council endorsed its priorities in March and we have been actively advocating for them ever since," he said.

"They include upgrades to Bartons Road in Nullawarre and the Mortlake-Woolsthorpe road corridor, funding for the Koroit Youth Space and the Port Fairy Footbridge, a fairer distribution of community benefits from renewable energy projects, and investment to support the upgrade and renewal of aquatic facilities.

"These are priorities we've been consistently advocating for with our current local members and government stakeholders because we know they are achievable, they address genuine community needs, and they will leave a lasting legacy for our communities."

Cr Lockett said that, alongside local priorities, Moyne would also advocate for broader regional priorities outlined in the South West Victoria Alliance's State Election Platform.

"Those regional priorities include upgrades to key freight and transport routes, including Woolsthorpe-Heywood Road and the Princes, Hopkins and Hamilton Highways," he said.

"Both the South West Victoria Alliance and Rural Councils Victoria are calling for increased and guaranteed investment in regional Victoria. Moyne strongly supports those calls.

"Joining together with regional organisations strengthens our advocacy. It amplifies our voice, demonstrates a united regional front and highlights the importance of investing in communities across regional Victoria."

Cr Lockett said the meetings would ensure every candidate understands what is important to Moyne residents, businesses and community groups.

"Regardless of who forms government after the election, our focus remains on securing the support and investment needed to help our communities thrive," he said.

"We look forward to working constructively with all candidates throughout the campaign."
