Choose appliances with a high energy rating

When purchasing an appliance, you can save money on your energy bills by choosing an appliance with a high energy rating. For example, the running costs over 10 years for an 8 star dishwasher is $89, compared to $531 for a 3 star dishwasher.

Highly efficient appliances typically use 50-80% less energy than the worst performing models.  Check the energy rating of appliances here.

You may also be eligible for rebates from the Victorian Energy Upgrades when purchasing a new appliance such as a washing machine, fridge, dishwasher or clothes dryer. More information here.

  • Star rating. The higher the star rating, the more energy efficient and the more you save
  • Energy consumption. This number (in kWh) tells you how much electricity the appliance uses per year, based on standard usage. The lower the number, the cheaper it is to run.
