The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) manages electricity and gas systems and markets across Australia and plans for Australia’s energy future. Every 2 years AEMO releases an Integrated System Plan (ISP) that provides a roadmap for the development of the energy system in eastern Australia over the next 20- 30 years.
On 10 December 2021, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) published the Draft 2022 Integrated System Plan (ISP) for future development of the National electricity system. It sets out committed, anticipated and future transmission line projects. This includes a proposed new transmission line to Mortlake. It also provides predictions about future development of electricity generation facilities (mainly wind farms) in the South Western Victoria Renewable Energy Zone.
The Draft 2022 ISP, all associated materials and details of the consultation process are available on AEMO's 2022 ISP Consultation page. The Final 2022 ISP is due to be released by 30 June 2022.
Council has made a submission on the Draft 2022 ISP which can be found here
The 2020 ISP mapped 35 Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) in Australia. REZs are areas where clusters of large-scale renewable energy facilities (like wind and solar farms) are developing with the potential for expansion in the future. This includes the South West Victoria REZ that contains Moyne Shire. AEMO has designated the South West REZ for Phase 1 development, which may result in further interest from renewable energy companies to develop new projects in Moyne Shire.

The Victorian Government is preparing a Renewable Energy Zone Development Plan, which will include options for electricity infrastructure development in Moyne e.g. new transmission lines and large grid scale batteries.
