Pool Lifeguard Training

Delivered by Life Saving Victoria, this course equips participants to work as a professional Pool Lifeguard in Victoria. Participants learn about pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care. With a shortage of pool lifeguards in the local area, this qualification is ideal for those seeking to work in the aquatic industry.

**This is a Blended course which requires candidates to hold the following prerequisite unit: HLTAID003 or HLTAID011 Provide first aid

Training will be held in Portland, Hamilton and Port Fairy, see details below.

Essential Course Information

This course will equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users. The course focus includes pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care.

Pre-requisites

This course requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and sound swimming ability. It is recommended that candidates are over 16 years of age. 

Candidates are to provide this evidence to us by mailing us a Certified True copy of the Statement of Attainment prior to the course OR by bringing the original Statement of Attainment and a copy (for us to retain) with you to the course.

Compulsory Unique Student Identifier (USI)

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a government requirement for all accredited training activities.

If you have previously provided LSV with your USI, it will be available in the ‘My Details’ tab of your LSV training profile and you do not need to do anything further.

If you do not have a USI, you can create one at www.usi.gov.au/students and then provide it to LSV.

What to bring

  • Wear comfortable clothing
  • Bring a pen, paper, drinks, and snacks
  • Swim wear and towels (wetsuit optional)
  • Sunscreen (if outdoors)

Assessment

The course assessment includes a multiple-choice theory paper and a range of practical assessment activities.

The theory paper is completed on-course for face-to-face candidates and online for blended course candidates.

Practical assessment activities are completed during the face-to-face delivery of the course for all candidates.

Course competencies

Successful completion of this course will result in the award of the following units:

  • PUAEME001 Provide emergency care
  • PUAEME003 Administer oxygen in an emergency situation
  • SISCAQU002 Perform basic water rescues
  • SISCAQU006 Supervise clients at an aquatic locations
  • SISCAQU007 Perform advanced water rescues
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid

In addition, Candidates will also receive:

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Validity Period

The Statement of Attainment is valid for a period of 12 months.
