Moyne Shire Council’s Economic Development Strategy is powering ahead, with all planned actions over the past 12 months either completed on in progress.

The five year action plan, which aims to implement the 10-year vision of the strategy is reviewed annually, with Councillors endorsing the year three report at Tuesday’s Council meeting.

Mayor Cr Karen Foster said 28 of the 43 actions of the year have been completed, with the remaining 15 in progress.

She said supporting economic growth was a key pillar of the council plan and it was pleasing to see progress being made and benefits delivered.

“Some of the highlights include the opening of cabins at the Mortlake and Koroit Caravan Parks and leasing those to workers to support local industries,” Cr Foster said.

“Those cabins have so many benefits – providing businesses with options to help attract new staff and have somewhere to house them while they complete projects. It then has benefits for the community, with those people then shopping locally, boosting the economy.

“The team has also been active in helping establish a shire wide chamber of commerce, provided support to businesses to assist with the COIVD recovery, continued the business façade improvement program and the small business incentive scheme and commissioned new materials to help attract new investment to the shire.

“There was also a huge amount of work done promoting the region to help attract new visitors, which resulted in Port Fairy being named Victoria’s top small tourist town for a second year running and claiming bronze at the national awards.”

Cr Foster said the report showed 99 per cent of actions for the past three years are either completed or in progress and Council’s Economic Development Advisory Committee would help guide the implementation of the Year 4 Action plan.

“It really is a credit to our team for the amazing amount of work they have done to ensure we push ahead and implement the Economic Development Strategy to support businesses in our region to grow, create new jobs and boost the local economy,” she said.
