A planning panel report in response to Planning Amendment C69 – Port Fairy Costal and Structure Plan – has been released.

The report follows a 13-day hearing held during September and October and makes 13 recommendations for Councillors to consider.

Director Economy and Place Jodie McNamara said the panel has indicated broad support for the “big picture” the amendment proposed, and has recommended several changes to the detail.

“One of the key changes is a recommended flood height of 0.8 meters, in line with the State average.  The Amendment, based on flood data, local conditions and modelling proposed 1.2 meters.”

“There are also several recommendations relating to specific zones and overlays council was proposing through the amendment.

“This amendment has been a long time in the making and has been a lot of hard work for our teams, I’m pleased to see it progressing toward the final steps. It’s terrific to have final guidance on flood levels for development certainty into the future.”

“We will now consider the recommendations and put them before Councillors at a meeting in early 2023.”

Deputy Mayor Cr Daniel Meade said the amendment had been through two public consultation periods during 2021 and early 2022 with 128 submissions made.

The responses were considered at the Council meeting on March 1 and Cr Meade said Councillors made some changes to the amendment based on those submissions and resolved to send the remaining submissions to an independent planning panel.

“I thank the community for their input on this important amendment. It was fantastic to have such strong engagement because this amendment is important to the future of Port Fairy and the Great Shire of Moyne as a place to work and live,” Cr Meade said.

“That feedback has now been considered by both Councillors and the independent planning panel. I thank the panel for their recommendations and Councillors will now consider the recommendations at a meeting in the near future.”
