Moyne Shire Council has a new Mayor, with Cr Karen Foster elected at Tuesday’s Council meeting.

Cr Daniel Meade was elected Deputy Mayor.

Cr Foster thanked her fellow Councillors for their support and paid tribute to outgoing mayor Cr Ian Smith.

“Cr Smith has done a fantastic job leading Moyne over the past 12 months and I thank him for his service,” Cr Foster said.

“Moyne is an amazing region – There is so much opportunity Council has a major role to play in unlocking the potential through our work with local businesses and advocacy to governments.

“There’s so much to deliver on over the coming 12 months, we have a record capital works program to deliver which includes a significant investment in our local roads and the redevelopment of East Beach in Port Fairy.

“We also have a strong advocacy agenda, with the Koroit Township Renewal project at the top of that list and we will continue lobbying the state and federal governments to gain funding support for this vital community project.

“I thank my fellow Councillors for entrusting me to be their Mayor and I will work my hardest over the coming year to repay their faith and to serving the people of Moyne as their Mayor.”

Cr Foster is the first female to be elected Mayor of Moyne Shire Council since former Councillor Brenda Hampson in 2004.
