Conventional Gas Exploration - Advocacy 2018

Exploration for and extraction of conventional gas (not fracking) has been safely undertaken throughout the south western region of Victoria for many years, and there are potential reserves of conventional gas that have been frozen by the current moratorium.

In July 2017 Councils resolved to support conventional onshore gas exploration, with a proportion of state royalties from the extraction of conventionally mined gas going to landholders.

We ask that regardless of which party is in government, they support council’s position to lift the moratorium on conventional gas exploration currently applicable until 2020.
