Macarthur Kindergarten

Our Philosophy

Macarthur kindergarten is dedicated to providing a warm, safe, welcoming and inclusive community which values and respects childhood and encourages the development of identity, where children and families feel supported and valued. At Macarthur kindergarten we are committed to being a child safe environment. We acknowledge the Aboriginal people as the first peoples of Australia and the Gunditjmara people as the traditional owners of the land on which we play and learn.

We believe kindergarten is a time to learn, play and have fun. At Macarthur Kindergarten we provide children with a variety of opportunities across all areas of development. We commit to providing rich opportunities and experiences in a high-quality play based program that delivers many learning opportunities, catering to all children needs and abilities. We strive to expand upon children’s understanding of literacy, numeracy, science and the environment. Our programs include sustainability principles, a health and wellbeing focus and a strong belief that children are connected to the wider community and the environment. In addition, we value social learning and provide many creative thinking opportunities.

We embrace diversity and believe that each child is shaped by their cultural background. We provide a curriculum which respects and reflects this. We value all families and children and the wide range of abilities and interests they bring to our service, incorporating these influences and ideas into our planning for programs that are fun, engaging, extend children’s learning and development and endeavour to support each child to reach their full potential. We believe children are capable, competent, co-contributors and active participants in their own learning and have high expectations for all.

We acknowledge childhood as a time of being, belonging and becoming and value the establishment of stable/consistent relationships that foster a sense of trust and security. Children who feel secure and have a sense belonging are more inclined to be open to learning. We value the outdoor environment at Macarthur Kindergarten and consider the natural environment as an integral part of our curriculum. We encourage the children to embrace and explore their surroundings, incorporating natural materials and resources into our program and believing children have the right to a healthy and sustainable future. Our Garden to Kitchen program hopes to foster healthy and sustainable lifestyles for everyone.

Our families are welcome and encouraged to become actively involved in the planning, implementation and day to day operation of the program and we strive to develop positive, respectful relationships with all. Our current children believe kinder is a time for playing with friends and eating. Our current families believe the following values are important; respect, honesty, empathy, inclusiveness and fairness. Families have highlighted that their hopes and dreams for their children are that the children believe in themselves; are happy, healthy and realise they can do and be whatever they set their heart on.
