Learn from the pros how to get the best from your music technology, go one-on-one live in front of a seriously connected booking agent and take a deep-dive on royalties with APRA AMCOS.

The Moyne Sessions Business of Music Masterclass is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. 

Session 1: Working In the Box - LOGIC

Logic is the digital composing tools of choice of the world's best known artists and producers. Take a deep-dive into Logic with Cameron Deyell (Sia, Missy Higgins, Liars) as he breaks down one of his Logic sessions track by track. In this session Cam explains real world terms how Logic and digital and composing software is best used - basic and advanced workflows, go-to Logic tools, combining traditional instruments with MIDA and virtual instruments and session structure. This session will delivered over two days.

Session Outcomes: Participants gain practical knowledge of working in the box with Logic – Logic session structure, working with tracks, working with VSTs, working with MIDI, recording analogue instruments, rendering/bouncing files ready for DAW mixing/finishing.

Session Needs: Feel free to bring along your laptop. You don’t need to bring any tech in – the session will be video recorded and made available to you. Follow link to Logic

Session 2: Working in the Box - LOGIC continued

When: Saturday 21st August
Time: 9am - 1pm
Location: The Drill Hall, The Victoria Hotel, Port Fairy

Session 3: Working in the Box - DAW 

The importance of integrating a DAW [digital audio work station] with composing tools such as Logic and GarageBand is a critical to taking your music from good to GREAT!!!! Join David Blake as he breaks down a working Reaper session track by track and explains in real-world terms how Reaper/DAW tools are best used. Covering basic and advanced workflows to mix and work in the box, David will enlighten you with exactly how to get a DAW to be your friend and having you baking awesomely good mixes.

Session Outcomes: Participants gain practical knowledge of working in the box with a DAW – DAW session project setup, working with tracks, working with VSTs, working with automation, recording analogue instruments, rendering/bouncing files ready for mastering.

Time: 1:30pm - 5:30pm

Session 4: APRA/AMCOS

No point having the greatest song ever written and being performed all over the world if you can’t get paid! Caroline McKnight is a powerhouse royalties collection and distribution expert from APRA/AMCOS, and will detail the importance of being an APRA member, why you HAVE TO log live gig records to get paid what you’re owed, the collection of royalties/distribution to song writers; and career development for song writers.

Session Outcomes: Participants gain practical knowledge of royalty collection and distribution.

Session 5: Live Showcase Gig with Booking Agent

So getting regular gigs is just about the music you say? NOPE! Successful gigging requires so much more. Its real simple – no booking agent fighting in your corner then no gigs will you get. And you’ll find this out as you play a live showcase, 2 song set in front of one of Australia’s most established Booking Agents. Scott McKenzie is a Senior Agent with Premier Artists, a stablemate of Frontier Touring and owned by the world renowned Mushroom Group. Scott will watch, listen and tell you what you need to do - for him to consider booking you for gigs.

Session Outcome: Participants gain practical knowledge of what a Booking Agent needs from an Artist.

Who Can Apply?
The Moyne Sessions Business of Music Masterclass is open to young people from the Southwest aged 30 years and under. 

Registrations

The Moyne Sessions Business of Music Masterclass program is free and available to artists 30 years and under.
