Port Fairy Skatepark Closed
Published on 12 January 2021
Following concerns raised by local users about the Port Fairy skatepark, Council has made the decision to close the facility, effective immediately.
Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade, said that while it was a blow for those who use the facility, Council is putting safety first.
“Council had contracted repairs to take place at the skatepark in late 2020,” Cr Meade said.
“However further major works are still required in order to ensure the safety of skatepark users, so Council have made the decision to close the facility while a review is undertaken.
“This review will take time as options for both repair and relocation will be assessed.”
The closure of the skatepark comes ahead of Council plans to look at alternative locations in Port Fairy for a new skatepark.
“At its December 2020 meeting, Council approved a budget variation to undertake an assessment of potential locations for a new skate park in Port Fairy,” Cr Meade said.
“Calls for expressions of interest to be involved in a project team for this assessment will go out next week and further details will be on Council’s website.”
Residents are encouraged to visit the skatepark in Koroit while the Port Fairy skatepark is closed.
