In a first for Moyne Shire, a series of pop-up recording studios will be held throughout January, offering young local musicians a kick-start to their career. Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade said the unique studios will enable young people in the region access to state-of-the-art equipment to produce professional recordings, while also offering mentoring through workshops with leading Australian music identities.

“The recording studios are a great way to give young residents a chance to further their careers,” Cr Meade said.

“We have 23 local acts participating, ranging from heavy metal right through to jazz, and consisting of a mix of bands, duos, soloists and trios.”

“As well as being able to professionally record their music, participants will first attend an intensive three-day song-polishing workshop with music producer Cameron Deyell who has produced for Grammy-nominated Sia, and a workshop with Australian artist Nathan Cavaleri.

“This is such a great opportunity for our young people, giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents, while also gaining insight from these music industry greats.”

Local artist Gabby Steel is participating in the program, and said the program will provide invaluable experience to young artists such as herself.

“As a young musician, the opportunity to record and receive feedback from industry professionals is invaluable,” Ms Steel said.

“Access to recording studios in rural areas is limited and can be expensive, making a pop-up studio especially beneficial to regional artists.

“A project like this will allow the many talented musicians in my area to be seen and heard, and give them real-life experience that will kick-start their careers.”
