Young artists across the south-west are being encouraged to create artworks for a new Moyne Virtual Gallery exhibition.

The exhibition has the theme Cyber Culture and is part of the Emerging Curators Development Program.

The MVG is a digital exhibition space which allows the visual art of young people across the region to be showcased to a large audience, regardless of location.

Rose Owen is curating the virtual exhibition as part of her successful application to the program in 2022.

Rose is being mentored by the Hamilton Art Gallery where she has been learning the processes, tips and tricks of launching an exhibition.

“Today’s internet culture and its effects is a topic that resonates with a lot of young people,’ she said.

“The response to the cyber culture theme has the potential to create some extremely personal and powerful work, and I encourage all young artists in the southwest to apply.”

The virtual exhibition will feature 30 successful submissions, with each artist being paid $100 for their time and effort.  All submissions have the chance to receive further opportunities to expand their creative practice.

Mayor Cr Karen Foster said the program was a fantastic opportunity for young artists across to showcase their creativity.

“We know the calibre of talent that we have in South West Victoria. This topical theme is sure to ignite the passion in many young people, and we encourage artists to channel that passion into visual art.” she said.

The Program has been made possible with the support of VicHealth through their Jumpstart! Fund.

Submissions are open now until 11.59pm July 27 via https://www.moyne.vic.gov.au/Our-Community/Youth/Cyber-Culture-MVG-Virtual-Exhibition-2023

Applications are open for people aged between 12 and 25 years who reside within Moyne Shire, Warrnambool City Council, Glenelg Shire, Southern Grampians or Corangamite Shire.
