Emerging young artists in the south-west region have a unique opportunity to kickstart their career in music, through a series of workshops aimed at enhancing their skills in music technology and career development.

Funded by the State Government through Creative Victoria, Moyne Shire Council’s ‘Moyne Sessions – Business of Music Masterclass’, is valued at almost $6,000 and will support up to 120 Victorian artists to gain the skills they need to launch their career in music.

Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade, said that the program provides an exciting opportunity for young people aged under 30 years old, to enhance their knowledge and gain valuable industry insights.

“The Moyne Sessions Masterclass provides a steppingstone for our next generation of local artists, musicians and songwriters to follow their dreams and launch their careers in the music industry,” said Cr Meade.

“The Youth Showcase and other local events have demonstrated that there are a number of talented and passionate young musicians in our region – we want to provide an opportunity for these artists to take the next step in their musical journey.”

“Each workshop is designed to build on the artist’s existing skills and foster their knowledge in music technology, composing, recording, and the business of music, as well as helping to accelerate their career.”

The Masterclass offers five intensive, professional development and capacity-building sessions delivered over three days and is aimed at contemporary artists who are interested in sustaining long-term careers in the Australian music industry.

“Whether you’re a songwriter, a musician or a band, this is your chance to gain valuable skills and advice from experts including Scott McKenzie – a senior agent with Premier Artists, who has worked with a range of artists including Eskimo Joe, Clare Bowditch, The Whitlams and others,” said Cr Meade.

“Take your talent to the next level, learn how to compose and record that album, how to book your next big gig and grab your chance to get in front of a professional booking agent.”

The Moyne Sessions Business of Music Masterclass is a free program with sessions from Friday, 20 August to Sunday, 22 August 2021. Participants can choose to attend individual sessions or all workshops. To register, visit the Moyne Shire Council website by Friday, 13 August 2021 at:
