Moyne Shire Council is excited iconic south-west business Kermonds Hamburgers have plans to open a takeaway business in Port Fairy.

Chief Executive Officer Brett Davis said while the wharf building has been flagged as the preferred location, there are a number of issues with the current lease arrangements Council is working through.

“The wharf building is on Crown Land and this means there are several conditions set out in legislation relating to leasing that have to be worked through,” Mr Davis said.

“Unfortunately any changes to the lease currently in place or a sub-leasing arrangement would have to meet those legislative requirements and then be approved by the appropriate Minister.

“This could take some time to complete.

“We are very keen to have Kermonds establish a business in Port Fairy and Council officers are working through the issues as a priority.

“An iconic local business in an iconic south-west location in Port Fairy would be a great outcome. Council is incredibly supportive of Kermonds opening in Port Fairy and is working hard to help bring it to fruition.”
