Additional Early Years Places for Port Fairy
Published on 20 April 2021
From the start of 2022, an additional 33 early years’ places will be available at Port Fairy’s Community Services Centre, with expansion works set to commence in the coming months.
Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade said the works would prepare the Centre for the introduction of funded 3-year old kindergarten in 2022.
“With funded 3-year old kindergarten commencing next year, and increasing demand for child care places in Port Fairy, Council have been looking at how the current Community Services Centre can be renovated to accommodate more children,” Cr Meade said.
“The Centre’s large meeting room will be converted from a meeting space into a kindergarten room, which will allow an additional 33 spaces.
“The $600,000 project has been made possible through a Building Blocks grant of $489,000 from the Department of Education, with Council contributing the balance from our capital works budget.
“This is great news for the Port Fairy community – in addition to 33 new early years’ spaces opening up in 2022, four new staffing positions will also be created.”
After the tender period closes later this week, a report will be prepared and presented at Council’s June meeting. The construction works will be carried out in the second half of this year, and will not impact the current early years’ services.
