Information posted 3 November 2009

Residents are reminded they still have time to comment on the Council’s draft Kerbside Waste Collection Action Plan.

Extending kerbside collections to more towns is just one of the actions outlined in plan, which is one of four plans being prepared by the Council over the next twelve months to improve waste management services. The other plans being prepared cover waste management facilities, corporate waste management and public place and events waste management.

Moyne Waste Management Officer Kristyn Abbott said the Council was encouraging residents to have their say on the draft kerbside waste collection action plan by making a written submission by November 10.

Ms Abbott said the plan aimed to develop kerbside waste collections to be a more efficient, effective service that operated in accordance with industry best practice.

“It’s really important for members of the Moyne Shire community, especially those in towns that may be affected, to have their say,” she said.

Some of the actions and or investigations outlined in the plan include:
  • Considering the extension of kerbside collection services to Cudgee, Hawkesdale, Mailors Flat, Panmure, Peterborough, Purnim and Nullawarre;
  • Investigating the extension of kerbside collection declared service areas to include routes travelled by contractors;
  • Investigating the reduction of bin size from 120 litres to 80 litres as part of the kerbside waste services charter;
  • Investigating incorporating the collection of household kitchen organics in the green waste collection.

    Ms Abbott said copies of the draft plan are available at Council offices in Port Fairy, Mortlake and Macarthur and on the Council website - click here to download. Copies are available at the Peterborough General Store, Caramut General Store and all Council waste facilities.

    Submissions on the plan must be in writing and should be addressed to Kristyn Abbott, Waste Management Officer, Moyne Shire Council, PO Box 51, Port Fairy, 3284. Submissions close on Tuesday 10th November 2009.

    For more information phone Ms Abbott on 5568 0555.
