2 November 2009

Moyne Shire Council is reminding groups to submit their Community Assistance Fund application as soon as possible to ensure they have a chance at the remaining funds.

Moyne Community and Corporate Support Director Steve Dawkins said this quarter was likely to be the last round offered this financial year as most of the funding has been allocated in the previous round.

Mr Dawkins said changes to the fund meant applications were now assessed on a quarterly basis depending on the submissions received, with no set amount fixed for each quarter.

“The next round of applications will be assessed in early December so it’s important for groups to get their applications in by the end of November,” he said.

“Those who submit their applications early have a greater chance of receiving grants before the funding pool runs out so I urge groups to get in quick for the next assessment period in December.”

Community Assistance Fund applications opened on 1st July and do not close, with the Council considering the applications received on a quarterly basis each financial year.

The Council has this year doubled the funding available in each of the four categories:
  • Facilities – up to $10,000
  • Sport development – up to $5,000
  • Arts and culture – up to $5,000
  • Health and wellbeing – up to $5,000

Mr Dawkins pointed out that groups could submit only one application per financial year, and funding is allocated on a dollar-for-dollar basis, which can include an in-kind contribution of up to 25%.

Some of the groups that were successful in the last round of grant allocations were:
  • Broadwater CFA – $265 for the purchase of large eskies for food
  • Hawkesdale Memorial Hall – $5,431 for a flooring upgrade
  • Illowa Recreation Reserve – $4,855 for security fencing
  • Peterborough Tennis Club – $500 for Christmas holiday coaching sessions
  • Winslow Yarpturk CFA – $1,900 to install a fire curtain in the fire truck
