| Always check before you build ... | | Whether you want to build a pergola, a shed or a new home, you must have all the relevant building, planning and septic tank permits before starting work.
Moyne Shire Council provides planning, building and septic tank services and can advise you on the permits you will need before you start building. Almost all building works will require a building permit, and town planning permits are also needed for many works depending on how your property is zoned and the particulars of your proposal. Septic tank permits are required for domestic development (new or alterations) in un-sewered areas.
Some examples of the projects that need permits include:
Alterations to an existing house. Sheds and garages. New houses. Pergolas and decking attached to a building. Swimming pools. Some fences. Internal alterations.
Please note - this list is not exhaustive and you will need to speak with Moyne Shire Council officers before building to ensure you have all the necessary permits.
