| Responsible pet ownership - your responsibilities under the law | | If you own a dog or cat in the Moyne Shire you must: Register each dog and cat that you own (penalty if not complied - $200). Ensure your dog or cat always wears its registration tag when outside your premises (penalty - $50). Keep your dog under effective control when walking it (penalty - $150 during the day, $200 at night). Keep your dog confined to your property at all other times (penalty - $150 during the day, $200 at night). Make sure your dog doesn’t bark consistently (penalty - $50-$150, and a possible court order to stop noise). Always clean up and dispose of your dog's droppings when in a public place, and carry a plastic bag or scooper device at all times when walking your dog (penalty – up to a maximum of $500). Do not take your dog into designated areas during the times when dogs are prohibited (penalty - $100). Prevent your dog chasing or attacking people or other animals (penalty – your dog may be seized and you can be prosecuted in a court of law).
