| Moyne Shire Council overview | | Moyne Shire Council has seven Councillors, who are elected by residents and ratepayers with the aim of developing a shared vision for Moyne Shire and to address the needs and aspirations of the people they represent.
Moyne Shire is one of Victoria's most productive and enterprising agricultural regions. Dairy, beef cattle, sheep and vegetable production are major industries. Manufacturing is mainly in the processing of primary products and resources, and includes dairy factories in Koroit and Allansford, BAM Stone, GlaxoSmithKile (pharmaceuticals) and Sou'west Seafoods in Port Fairy.
The tourism and domestic holiday sectors of the economy also continue to grow, particularly in Port Fairy. Key features include art, major events, natural attractions, historic townships and special places to stay.
Community services such as the Moyne Health Services facility at the Port Fairy hospital, local schools and the Council, also make important contributions to the economy. Top

| A Guide to Local Government website - learn more about local government | | To learn more about local government, how it operates, what it does and how they are structured, visit the State Government's "Guide to Local Government" website. Many people have generally low levels of awareness of what their councils do for them, and the new guide has been written specifically to help all Victorians better understand and appreciate local government.
The Guide contains sections covering: How councils work - broadly outlines the system of government and how councils function. How councils make decisions - describes council decision-making processes, interests and confidentiality. What councils do - identifies the many functions and activities of councils. Planning and finance - provides an overview of the way councils raise funds and manage public resources. Council elections - describes how council elections are run and how people can participate. Consultation and complaints - aims to help people resolve problems with their councils.
The Guide is a self-contained section of the Local Government Victoria website and information will be updated regularly to reflect changes as they occur.
