Council has a number of local laws. All local laws have the same legal force as any other state and federal laws and penalties apply for breaking these laws. Council has a number of authorised officers who enforce local laws.

The following Local Laws are current:

Guidelines For Issue Of Permits

Guidelines exist for issuing of permits under Local Laws for the following activities. Copies of these guidelines can be requested by ringing Council's Local Laws Officers on (03) 5568 0555 or you can download a copy by clicking on the link at the bottom of this web page.
 
GUIDELINES TITLE   LOCAL LAW   CLAUSE    
Itinerant Trading to operate from Public Places   3/05   L3-4.1    
Portlable Advertising Signs and Display of Goods on Roads and Footpaths   3/05   L3-5.2    
Placement of Tables and Chairs on Roads and Footpaths   3/05   L3-5.2    
Consuming or being in possession of liquor in a specified area   3/05   L3-6.1    
Droving of Livestock   3/05   L3-7.2    
Roadside Grazing   3/05   L3-8.1

Specified Areas
The following are specificed areas prohibiting the consumption of alcohol in public areas in Port Fairy, Mortlake and Peterborough:

Port Fairy

Area bounded by Regent Street, Gipps Street, Campbell Street, and Williams Street, Port Fairy in accordance with Section 6.1 of the Council's General Local Law No 3 of 2005.

Mortlake

The area bounded by and including Boorook, Bourke, Scott, Officer, Shaw and Church Streets, Mortlake; the Moyne Shire offices and grounds at Mortlake; and the Tea Trea Lake Reserve at Mortlake (excluding the Mortlake Caravan Park);
for the period 9am to 12 midnight on the Saturday of the Mortlake Buskers Festival in accordance with Section 6.1 of General Local Law No. 3 of 2005

Peterborough

In the township of Peterborough within 1 kilometre from the corner of Hamilton Street and Halladale Road including all public places and open space areas under the management of the Moyne Shire; from 4pm New Year's Eve until 9am on New Year's day of each year in accordance with Section 6.1 of General Local Law No. 3 of 2005.
