In short ... budget summary
The budget reflects good fiscal management and positions the Council for growth in coming years. It is set in the context of a four-year financial plan.
It recognises that the maintenance and improvement of the Shire's very large road network is our highest priority. Nearly $11 million will be spent on roads and traffic works during the 2007/08 financial year.
Rating levels also continue to be relatively low when compared to other councils, with Moyne Shire Council this year increasing rates by 5.1 per cent in total with an average individual property rates bill of 4.5 per cent. The 2007/08 budget includes increased spending in community support and engagement, as well as funds to improve service delivery across a range of services such as home maintenance for the elderly.
We are committed to helping make Moyne a safe, vibrant and prosperous community.

Rates made easy
The rates notice is often the most misunderstood bill a household receives. Moyne Shire understands rates charges might seem confusing and encourages residents to phone us or read our "Your Rates" brochure, which gives a "plain English" explanation of how rates are calculated and what charges make up your rates bill.
The brochure can be downloaded by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page. If you would like more information please phone 1300 656 564 for the cost of a local call, or drop into see our Rates staff at the Port Fairy office, corner of Cox and Princes streets.
