Kindergarten

We often answer questions from parents on when a child should start kindergarten. Officially a child needs to turn four by April 30th in the year of attendance; however, our advice is always that the decision is best made based on your child’s individual development and needs.

As each child is eligible to attend one year of funded kindergarten, we encourage you to speak to your child’s educator for 2017, if you have any concerns about readiness for kindergarten.

While age is only one indicator, it is important to remember this continues throughout your child’s education, through to latter secondary years.

Children receive one year of funded kindergarten in the year prior to school. The only time a child may receive a second year of kindergarten is if they have delays in at least two areas of development. General immaturity is not a delay and therefore an application will not be lodged solely upon the basis of immaturity.

We look forward to the opportunity to discuss your child’s enrolment. The Educational Leaders of each Moyne Shire Service are listed below.
