Animals found wandering in the shire - whether cats, dogs or stock - can be impounded by the Council's Local Laws Officers. Impounded cats and dogs are taken to the RSPCA in Warrnambool, where owners can collect them. Wandering stock can be impounded as well and if not claimed within a certain period, can be sold with proceeds going back to Council. (Any stock impounded are advertised in local papers before being sold.)
Registering and microchipping your pets is the best way to ensure it is returned to you quickly and easily. Fines can be issued for pets found wandering.
If your pet has gone missing you can phone the Council or RSPCA to see whether it has been picked up. Phone Moyne Shire's Local Laws Officers on (03) 5568 0555 or the Warrnambool RSPCA on (03) 5561 2591
