Koroit Lions Club receives funding for public barbecue
Published on 21 December 2017
Moyne Shire has agreed to provide $20,000 for a new barbecue facility in Koroit.
The Koroit Lions Club project will see the public barbecue built in the Port Fairy-Warrnambool Rail Trail precinct near the former Koroit Railway Station.
The council is providing the funding through the Community Assistance Fund, which provides grants of up to $20,000 to community groups around the shire.
The barbeque will enhance the Rail Trail precinct community area that boasts the new playground and skate park developments.
It is anticipated the facility will encourage more visitors, bike riders and families to the area.
The Koroit Lions Club had indicated to the council it would like to build a solar-powered barbecue.
The council voted to provide the $20,000 regardless of whether the barbecue is powered by mains electricity or solar power.
While the council will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and costs of the barbecue, a condition of the funding is that the maintenance and costs regarding any solar components will be the responsibility of the Lions Club.
This was done to minimise the ongoing financial impact on ratepayers.
Moyne Shire Council would like to congratulate the Koroit Lions Club on the project and their initiative.
