Closure of Griffiths Island for Fox shoot

Published on 03 September 2018

A fox shoot will close Griffiths Island on 19 September in preparation for the seasonal arrival of mutton birds.

At the request of Moyne Shire Council and Friends of Griffiths Island, Warrnambool Field and Game will undertake the culling at the Port Fairy reserve from 6pm to 11pm

The colony of shearwater seabirds will migrate to the island from Alaska shortly to nest on land, leaving them susceptible to predators, including foxes.

The fox shoot is a part of Council’s annual program to control fox numbers on the Island.

An authorised representative will be in attendance at the Rotunda/Causeway during this time to provide face to face information on the fox shoot and prevent public access to the area.
