Academic Support Scholarships – creating bright futures

Published on 08 May 2018

Two of our academic support scholarship recipients have recently been in touch to express their thanks for financial assistance provided by Moyne Shire.

Oliver Love Davies of Port Fairy is starting out on a nursing degree at Deakin University’s Warrnambool campus. In an email to us, he said “Thank you very much once again for this scholarship. I’ve already purchased my stethoscope and other nursing equipment. I cannot express my thankfulness enough. This has made a huge difference!”

Ruby Canning has lived just out of Mortlake for many years. She has her own cattle stud, Mavstar Simmentals, which she co-owns with her brother. She’s embarking on a Bachelor of agriculture/Bachelor of Business at the University of New England in Armidale. Here’s a little of what she said in a letter to us:

“Firstly, I would like to sincerely thank the Moyne Shire for this wonderful opportunity, and the privilege to be recognised as a valued recipient, as well as a contributor to our wonderful community.

Secondly, I would like to outline how much this scholarship will contribute to my year at university. The money will be put towards my fortnightly payments for my accommodation at Robb College. Due to a severe motor vehicle accident in December last year, which resulted in a fractured spine and severe nerve damage I was unable to continue work before I started university. Therefore, I began university this year financially stricken, and I am thankful for the support of this scholarship and my parent’s assistance.

I congratulate all the other recipients, and I hope to continue giving back to the local community every chance I get.

This scholarship will truly make an impact on my year at university, and will forever be grateful.”
