Tower Hill Challenge
The Tower Hill Challenge on Saturday 2 December 2017 is an Obstacle Race event consisting of a 6km or 15 km test of stamina. Both events finish in the middle of Koroit at the local football and netball club. Music, food and entertainment will be on after the event at the football ground where medallions for those who complete the THC will be presented along with heaps of spot prizes. Located just to the west of Warrnambool, Tower Hill is a fascinating geological formation in Victoria. It has an important place in local Aboriginal history and it teems with wildlife.
Tower Hill is an enormous volcanic crater rimmed by beds of volcanic ash. The swampy floor of the crater is punctuated by conical hills which, after good rains, virtually become islands surrounded by a shallow lake. A violent volcanic explosion 30,000 years ago created the funnel-shaped crater (later filled with water to form a lake), islands and volcanic cone we now call Tower Hill.
The inside of the crater and the island-hills are now a wildlife reserve and there are substantial populations of native birds and wildlife. It's easy to see koalas, kangaroos, emus and much more.
